About FilmFest

FilmFest is written by Marcus Greer, a Melbourne-based film critic and screen industry journalist who's spent the better part of fifteen years covering Australian cinema. He's been credentialed at MIFF since 2011, has written for Screen Hub, contributed festival coverage to ABC Arts, and has strong opinions about the state of cinema distribution in this country.

This site covers Australian film festivals, indie filmmaking, screen industry funding and policy, the business of getting films made in Australia, and how technology is reshaping post-production and distribution. Marcus writes from the perspective of someone who genuinely cares about the local screen industry and thinks we don't talk about it enough outside the festival bubble.

You'll find news commentary, practical guides for emerging filmmakers, opinion pieces that don't pull punches, and festival previews that go beyond the official brochure. The coverage is honest, sometimes blunt, and always grounded in what's actually happening on sets, in funding meetings, and in cinema lobbies around Australia.

Marcus lives in Fitzroy with his partner and a truly unreasonable number of Criterion Collection Blu-rays. When he's not at a screening, he's probably arguing about sound design at a pub in Collingwood.

If you work in the Australian screen industry, or you just love Australian film, this is your spot.
